Urbana, Illinois 61801 Rabbit spermatozoa were exposed to the alkylating agent tris-(1-aziridinyl)-phosphine oxide
(TEPA) prior to insemination into females. Eggs fertilized with TEPA treated spermatozoa did not
develop beyond the 2-3-cell stage whereas eggs fertilized with control spermatozoa developed
normally. TEPA treated spermatozoa successfully competed for fertilization of ova with control
spermatozoa. Thus rabbit spermatozoa can be marked with TEPA for studies involving fertility
comparisons of populations of spermatozoa.
