A Shifting Circannual Rhythm in Serum Testosterone Concentration in Male Laboratory Rats

E. J. MOCK 1, and A. I. FRANKEL 1

1 Department of Biological Sciences, State University of New York at Binghamton Binghamton, New York 13901

The serum testosterone concentrations of 3-month-old male laboratory rats, maintained under controlled environmental conditions, demonstrated a shifting circannual rhythm with a period of about 11.5 months. This circannual rhythm appears to be the result of an altered maturational pattern of serum testosterone.

Note:
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We are grateful for the generous donation of testosterone antibody from Dr. B. V. Caldwell, Yale University School of Medicine. Thanks are due Mrs. M. R. Frankel for typing this manuscript.
