The rates of rise or intrauterine pressure cycles recorded from conscious or anesthetized ovariectomized rats were significantly elevated during recovery from total myometrial quiescence imposed by treatment with 5-10 µg porcine relaxin. When uterine activity was provoked by PGF2agr or oxytocin treatment during relaxin inhibition, rates of rise were again increased, although only significantly so in the case of PGF2agr. These data suggest that relaxin may improve myometrial coordination.
