The injection of cyclic AMP directly into the Graafian follicles of estrous rabbits inhibited the luteinization induced by luteinizing hormone. This inhibition was found to be specific. Furthermore, destruction of endogenous cyclic AMP by intrafollicular injection of phosphodiesterase produced luteinization. These results suggest that the process of luteinization might normally be held in check by cyclic AMP.
