Ciliated Stromal Cells in the Hamster Uterus

M. V. CLARK 1, and T. H. BRINSFIELD 1

1 United States Department of Agriculture, ARS Animal Science Research Division, Beltsville, Maryland 20705

The occurrence of ciliated stromal cells was determined in the uteri of 36 hamsters during estrus or pseudopregnancy. Cilia were found in 8.1% of stromal cells in estrous hamsters and in 7.9% of stromal cells in pseudopregnant hamsters. Morphologically, cilia found in stromal cells of hamster uteri were similar to nonmotile cilia found in other nonepithelial tissues.
