1 Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of California, Davis, California 95616 A technique has been devised for the artificial insemination of mice (C3HeB/FeJ)
which does not require the participation of a vasectomized male. The use of an artificial
penis and a vaginal tampon have been shown to be satisfactory substitutes for the vasectomized males. When both the artificial penis and the vaginal tampon were used 69-87%
of the inseminated animals successfully implanted embryos. The implantation percentages
when the artificial penis and the vaginal tampon were used separately were 31 and
50, respectively.
