• [Supplemental Data] - "Supplemental Figure S1. Distribution of the light scattering intensity measured in sucrose gradient fractions isolated from caput and cauda epididymal spermatozoa. Spermatozoa were treated with 1% Triton X-100 and subjected to fractionation by the sucrose gradient method. Different fractions (as defined in Figure 1) collected along the sucrose gradient were pooled to obtain the L-D (fractions 3, 4, 5), the I-D (6, 7, 8) and the H-D (9, 10, 11) fractions. Light scattering intensity was assessed in each fraction by measuring the optical density at 400 nm. Results are expressed as mean &[plusmn] SEM for three independent experiments. Different lowercase letters indicate significant difference of cholesterol levels within and between each sperm type and density fractions (P < 0.05). L-D, Low-density; I-D, Intermediate-density; H-D, High-density.

  Supplemental Figure S2. Distribution of GM1 molecules in detergent resistant membrane (DRM) and Triton-soluble (T-S) fractions. Cauda epididymal spermatozoa were incubated without (Control) or with seminal plasma (SP). Spermatozoa were treated with 1% Triton X-100. The DRM fractions containing lipid rafts were pelleted by centrifugation at 16 000 &[mult] g and separated from the corresponding Triton-soluble fractions. GM1 levels were detected by dot-blotting using CTB-HRP conjugated.
