COVER: From "Hypoxia Inhibits Rcho-1 Trophoblast Giant Cell Differentiation" by Amy D. Gultice, Kaisa L. Selesnniemi, and Thomas L. Brown. (Biol Reprod 2006; 74:1041-1050). The Rcho-1 rat trophoblast cell line can be maintained in a proliferative state or induced to differentiate into the invasive, trophoblast giant cell lineage. Hypoxia inhibits aspects of trophoblast giant cell differentiation, including decreased levels of cytoskeletal stress fi ber formation. This microphotograph shows differentiating Rcho-1 cells cultured under hypoxic conditions of 1% oxygen for 7 days. Cells were visualized by epifl uorescent staining using rhodamine-conjugated phalloidin and Hoescht dye. Cover design and layout: Jane Tenenbaum, Tenenbaum Design, Madison, Wisconsin. Biology of Reproduction is printed with soy-based inks on acid-free paper by Allen Press, Inc., Lawrence, Kansas.
