About the Cover

Cover Figure

COVER: From "The Macaque Sperm Actin Cytoskeleton Reorganizes in Response to Osmotic Stress and Contributes to Morphological Defects and Decreased Motility" by Liane M. Correa, Alysia Thomas, and Stuart A. Meyers. Biol Reprod 2007; 77:942-953. Published online in BOR-Papers In Press 5 September 2007; DOI 10.1095/biolreprod.107.060533. The cytoarchitecture of the sperm actin cytoskeleton was examined after exposure to osmotic stress using immunofluorescence microscopy and digital imaging. In this pseudocolored image, the F-actin cytoskeleton is most pronounced in the neck, midpiece, and postacrosomal area of the head. After hyperosmotic stress and treatment with an actin disruptor, prominent F-actin bands form in sperm heads. Cover design and layout: Jane Tenenbaum, Tenenbaum Design, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Biology of Reproduction is printed with soy-based inks on acid-free paper by Allen Press, Inc., Lawrence, Kansas.
